Default Noisy old getrag

My trans has 151k on it and it has rattled 5th gear since new. About 3 yrs ago I replaced the oem clutch with a hayes and had the oil changed in it. After about 2 yrs and around 4k miles it started rattling pretty bad when you were in neutral push the clutch in it went away. It was getting so noisy that you could'nt hear anything but it. I had heard that you should put one quart more oil in it than recommended so I pulled the shifter out and poured a quart of Lucas oil stabilizer in it. I just drove it and all the noise is gone I'm not saying it fixed any exsisting problems but it sure made what I have more tolerable. I've run Lucas in my Freightliner for years and highly recomend it

2X or 4X?

and main or counter shaft?

both should just pop out the only thing that holds them in is the shims unless someone put them in dry and beat them in but if that were the case it would have burned up the bearing

Both getrags i have been in the races in the case were very easy to remove, only bearings that required heat were on the main shaft, for the input and output bearings. I heated them and cooled the shafts and they slid right on.

It's 4x4, and its the main shaft. The other ones just came out.
