Might be, if I had to guess it's a switch the cuts power to the coil, it looks like it has a temp probe that goes into the return line and senses evaporator temp, it may do more than just that, awful lot of wires for just an interrupt switch.

 

I'm about to give up on my a/c! I can't find out what that black box is by my low pressure switch. F'n a/c!

 

I wouldnt blame the black box. If no one knows what it is then it cant be a common problem or even a problem.
-We always blame the part that we know the least about. Id keep on truckin.

 

Ok, I think I finally found out what that stupid little black box is. I went to the Stealer, and he says it's a Temp. Sensing Switch" Chrysler part# 56005783. This F'r has wires that run directly into the LP feron line. The wires also run into the H-block(I think that's what it's called) Napa says it's discontinued, I still have no a/c!!!:arg h:
Here's a few pics of this POS. The 3 wire deal run to the compressor right? the other runs to my LP freon line, and the other runs into the H-block(I think). Any idear's.

That switch is a low temp cutoff switch. It senses the temp in the line and is supposed to cutoff the compressor circut before it freezes up. I have been told it rairly fails. 4seasons no longer lists one for 1st gens. They do have them for other mopars of that era. It has three wires and a temp probe that slides into the low pressure refridgerent line. The plugs are different but the switch is the same. I broke the capillary tube on mine due to mishandling. I don't recall the part# but I bought one from napa and switched the plugs out. It works fine and I didn't even cut the wires I was able to switch the pins from one plug to the other.

Well.... been to 3 Napas, and no luck. Went through their book with plenty of pics, but nothing seemed to be compareable. I'm so pissed I can't fix my a/c! I'm gona have to take it somewhere and pay out my ***, I guess, wtf, this is total bs! Anyone know a good a/c dude in central Ohio

 

I'll go to my local NAPA and see if I can get a part number for you. I've got a pretty good parts guy who lets me look thru the books and dosn't seem to be threatened by a customer touching his catalouges. For some reason most counter men seem to be really defensive about you finding something they have no idea how to find. just my observation. Rocky

 

The Napa# for the switch I used is 207540. I used a miltimeter to figure out which wire went where in the plug. They stayed in the same order in the plug, I hopes this helps. Rocky
