Default Fuel Filter Change and "WATER IN FUEL" light is on

I changed my fuel filter and now the "WATER IN FUEL" light won't go out on the Cummins information center. I tried draining the water separator but the light is still on. Can I just unplug the sensor to get the light to go out?

I hope I don't have to pull that sensor because I installed it with a new O-ring and it doesn't leak. Removing it will likely cause a leak and problems. I definitely do not want to remove the whole filter.

sometimes insulation on the wires that go into the bottom of the sensor stretches back exposing the wire allowing them to make contact with eachother. if they're touching the light will stay on.

You can over tighten the sensor and it will short out against the bottom of the filter.

I tightened the sensor until it seated but I didn't go any farther. Would unplugging it just turn the light off?

In my opinion that sensor is overrated I got rid of it and put an FS1000 on it. The previous owner of my pickup had cut the wires and pulled the bulb out of the message center anyways it would've taken more effort to fix it than just put a different filter that doesn't have the stupid sensor that is prone to leaking

Ya I just pulled mine when it pissed all my fuel out on my way home from Portland. Just put a Baldwin with the drain on the bottom, works great and my light will never come on.
