Look on your door jam for the gross combined weight. You truck is around 6k.

just load it up. i have a 92 with a 518 OD and i used to pull a tri axel flat deck loaded was about as big as was safe at the time. that was years ago, trailers are better now though.

i plan to pull my 10 ton tandem axel dump trailer loaded this year as well as my 26ft covered drag car trailer. they have solid engines and solid drive train. they can handle weight

I used to tow 20k with my old '92 and it did fine. I've been towing 20k+ the last couple weeks with my current 1st gen and I personally think the 518 handles towing better than the getrag does. If you tow that much I would recommend getting a temp gauge and go from there as far as cooling.

My 518 sure as hell don't, rebuilt it and 10k miles later slipping 3rd gear. It's a sorry trans IMO. The most I've pulled was 14k combined, few very short trips.

Guess they didn't rebuild it right. My truck, when it belonged to my wife, went all over the country towing 20k on a stock tranny and engine. The only problem she ever had was the headlight switch caught fire.
