The NAPA Gold filters are regualer WIX filters. The regular NAPA filter are still made by WIX but are a little lower quality. I always use the NAPA Golds.

napa 1607 thats all I have ever used no issues if you change it often enough a wad of paper towel will do the job, theres no sense in putting on a $30 filter just to take it off in 3K, 5K, 10K miles
This sucker has Delo 400 15W-40 and a napa 1607 changed every 3 or 3K since it was new in 1990 689,555 miles later never a hickup just rebuilt it a year or so ago because I poped the OE HG this thing looked like new inside so I reused the main bearings and the rings still runnin strong almost 35K later and thats with ~400HP
