Divide the manifold in 1/2, that is where the divider is, the divide the back half, in half, that is where to drill.

As you can see by this picture, you see that the manifold is approx. 4" long, so you want to drill the hole around the 1"mark. Mine is about 1 1/4" from the side of the manifold.

ahhhhhhhh gotcha. thanks. I will be putting the probe in possibly Sunday.

Thanks for help.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

So I received my egt probe from autometer and they say that it is only to be mounted after the turbo. WTF?

Should I just install it? The gauge face goes to 1,600 and I ordered the matching probe. Has anyone else run into this?

autometer is correct thats where there "supposed" to go but us guys that do performance want to know EXACTLY whats going on so we put them PER turbo to as per instructions/photos above its a cake walk get a drill pit and a 1/8NPT tap and a cressent wrench thats all you need if you dont have a tool slection

also i believe another reason they say post turbo is because the "stinger" can break off and take out the turbo. i dont know if this is a major concern but possibly often inspections could be a good idea. other than that i think everyone else is spot on. 900-1000 post turbo is what ive always heard.

as others have said 1250 continuous from Cummins. During a pull my gauge pegs out at 1600 and takes about 3 seconds to come back down after I lift. No clue how hot it is acyually getting.

If this happens you simply bought cheap crap.
It has a reason why these probes are so expensive. Usually they contain traces of platinum which makes them heat resistant.

Temperatures behind the turbochrger are 200 to 300 degree lower through the heat dissipation. So running 950 is in worst case already right on the limit. Siemens or Beru works on an independent egt control to ensure every chamber gets the right amount of fuel for maximum power while providing equal egt temps.

Well I got my EGT and boost gauge installed and I am pleased to see that it runs at pretty reasonable temps for not being intercooled.

During a 4th gear pull and part-way into 5th on the freeway it creeped up to 1,200 degrees. I think I would have a problem in a quarter mile length run but ok for now.

What is normal for freeway type cruising in 5th, or 35-40mph city cruising in 4th? Just from the few days I've been glancing at it, it appears to be around 600 degrees in a normal driving environment.

Thanks for the info on placement. Taking the turbo off was a bit of a pain, but everything else went smoothly.

I get the same thing under normal conditions with less than 5 pounds of boost.. and ya, in a 4th gear pull I can kiss 1300 but I don't like to.. haha plus I feel like I just watch my gas gauge go down when I do that too much.
