Mail 93 turbo upgrade???

i was thinking about upgrading my turbo big enough to keep it all cool when i get bigger injectors, some have said go with a D-tech s300 turbo thats 62mm but i priced one at around $1200, so i was thinking of going with a he351, i can get one of them pretty cheap but i dont know enough about turbos to make that call, what do you think?

My personal preference is the HE351. An S300 is a good turbo, but you should be able to get an HE for close to a quarter the price. Not new of course... The HE isn't going to be a bolt-on though, there's some fabbing and messing to get it to run right.
My reasoning for the HE is that it's capable of 40+ psi, 4" outlet, and if you can figure a way of controlling the vanes, has a built in 'exhaust brake'. Hard to beat for the price.
In fact, just thinking about it, even if you got Fleece Performance's controller, at $750-ish, you'd be close to a new S300 but able to do much more stuff.

There may well be a good thread or two already on here with pics, so do a search. Youtube may well have something too. But I'll try and explain in words as best I can, bearing in mind I haven't done this to my own truck, (yet.)

First thing you'll notice is the outlet of the compressor is in the wrong place. You can 'clock' the compressor to wherever you want so it's no problem. Just loosen whatever mechanism that's holding it in place, (be it snap ring, bolts etc etc) and turn it. From what I understand the IC inlet tube will still not be exactly inline, but the boot should stretch a little and allow you to get it hooked up.
The other thing is getting it bolted on to your manifold. I think the bolt pattern is a T4 on the turbo, (not 100% on that) and our manifolds are T3. So, the 2 studs on the turbo are going to need to be ground flat, and the other two holes are going to need to be filled, and the pattern redrilled. Some folks drop a bolt or stud in there and weld it in place and grind it flat, others just weld it. Either way is fine. Then redrill the hole pattern to fit.
Your 3" downpipe is fine, (although kind of a waste as a 4" turbo back is going to allow the engine to breathe a lot better ) but you are going to have to weld a 4" flange on the end of it to make it fit the turbine outlet. I can't remember if it's a V-band flange or not, but I'm sure you'll be able to find whichever flange type you need on Ebay. Diamond Eye or Summit Racing, (and others) may be able to make you up a flange too, if you can't find one.
What else? ... I think that covers it for now. I know I know, pictures are always better. Sorry! Hope this helps anyway.

well man thanks, pics are good but i can apply this, i did a cummins converson on an 89 ford, so im going to be going to a 3rd gen manifold because it drops down instead of sticking out, i need it for the air box clearance, i dont know the numbers and modles but is that the style manifold that the he351 is supposed to bolt on to? and one more Q. will my 2.5" air boots still work or will i have to do somthin differnt for the i.c?

you might have to buy a reducer depending on what turbo you use but ya 3 out of the 4 boots will still work until they blow

Yes Sir, the 3rd gen manifold is the one for the HE. I believe it was introduced around '04.5, so anything '05, '06, '07 should work. What I don't know is if it will bolt to our block or not. And as Brice said, those boots should be good. Although, it just so happens he has very good pricing on Dodge-sized boots at the moment, with custom colors available.
