Also the R5503 is the ev style 2 1/16th thats 4k rpm. The R5504 is a 5k tach. The R8912-92 is a wire kit, not a sensor. With the EV series you don't need to use there wire kit because the resistor that is in the wire kit is not needed. I am pretty sure the R8 series needs the resistor. ( NOTE ) the R8501 is a 3 thousand rpm tach. The 4 thousand model in that series is the R8503.

I believe on the 1992 and newer dodges all you need is the R8912-92 because you maintain the factory magnet. You don't need that kit to make it work. All that is required is to hook to the 4 pin connector under the dash. The r8912-92 is just a wire harness with 5 wires in it. 4 wires are just regular wires. 1 wire has the resistor in it that is needed for some of there tachs to work with the factory dodge wire plug. The EV tach's do not require the resistor circuit so you can save money by using 4 seperate wires. I have 2 of the R5503 ev gauges and I wired them myself But I you do a 4k tach you can do a 8503tach and 8906 sensor kit which has the magnets and everything. I have the R8503 in my 89 and that truck has the mag sensor kit R8912. The R8912 has 2 magnets that glue to the balencer and a pickup assembly to read those magnets. The 5503 you need a kit for the sensor as well
All My answers are in red in the above quote.

My truck 91.5 intercooled did not have the plug under the dash, just one of thoses things most had them but after research alot of the LE d250's did not have the plug. I use an ISSPRO 3 1/2 inch with the cup mounted to the dash and I needed the magnets and the wiring to make the tach work.I'll post a pick of all guages.
