From what I understand, you're trying to shut the wastegate to prevent it from opening, thus giving you maximum boost, correct? If you want to do it the proper way, there's a retaining ring on the bottom of the adjusting rod. Take that off, loosen the locking nut on the threaded part, and thread the rod all the way in. It's much easier if you take the turbo off.
Otherwise, you could clamp the hose going to the diaphragm with whatever you choose; vise grips, zip tie, (don't think it'll hold but you could try it.) etc etc.

If you kink the hose, the wrap a tie pie around the kinked area it should hold. It work for the previous owner of my HX35.
When I first did my compounds I didn't plumb it right to have a wastegate, so I removed it completely. I then used some stainless lock wire to hold the wastegate closed, and anchored it to a bolt threaded into one of the waste gate holes.

well i wasnt 100% sure what it was to be honest. i didnt know if some sort of hose had to come out of it and hook up to something that wasnt there? so essentially i can just hook the hx35 right up?
