Default is my tranny supposed to be like this?

i've got a 92 cummins. 250, 4x4 with 400 000 km on it. one of the other trucks i got is an 01 24 valve 4x4.

so in the 1st gen how come you can rev rpms while in gear? hard to explain but for example if im in OD, i can hit the gas and it revs up to whatever, and then speeds up sort of deal whereas the 24v if you accel in OD id doesnt rev up it accels and the sound of the engine grunts, sounds like its working you know? that deep growl?

my question is is my 1st gen supposed to run like this? any way to fix it?

the thing has ***** and ***** of power but i feel like i dont get as much at the wheels with this ability to rev rpms in gear sort of thing.

thanks guys, help is really appreciated

That's the difference between your older NON lock-up A518 (AKA: 46RH) transmission and the newer lock-up 47RH&E & 48RE transmissions.

Goerend.
Around $800 and, according to many, well worth it.

Mark.

I'm getting ready to upgrade my a518 to a tighter converter or swap a lockup transmission in. The only way to truly get rid of the revvig feeling is to swap to lock up or a manual.

has anyone thought of putting a 94 fully hydralic trans WITH TCC (torque converter clutch) in a first gen. and then using an automatic TCC lockup box like TS performance's aftermarket lock up box to control the TCC?

otherwise what are some options for lockup auto transmission conversions?

I put a pro torque convertor in my last month. It was around $800, but i have no regrets.
