I have this problem. My plan is to instal a potentiometer. Way cheaper.

overdrive solenoid....look in the stickys, there is a wiring diagram of the transmission which includes the overdrive solenoid....had lots of problems out of mine and tried to eliminate everything before iwent into the transmission, needless to say, i went into the transmission and all is good. as for your speedo i can't help you there...maybe its missing a tooth on cable gear? not sure how these trucks are set up on speedometers so dont quote me on that.

On your speedometer the sensor may be loose or have gone bad mine did this it is on the transfer case on the drivers side. A new sensor is should be about 35 bucks at your local parts house

First thing you need to find out is why your speedo is acting up. Your overdrive is not going to work correctly if it is going up and down. Find the problem and fix it RIGHT. My plan is to instal a potentiometer. You have to love it when you buy a used truck someone has rigged together. I'm having to same problem with my speedometer.
