does anybody know anything about runing this turbo on my first gen truck and my 98 12v truck. the 91 is stock with fuel turned up, head never been off and 98 has had head work but just curious if any damage could be done to the engine on either truck? what about valves, wondering also about spring and seloind? dont really want to use a choke cable on it but can if have to, also head gasket? on a bone stock turck

Search HE351VE on a vp44, He351VE on a 12 valve on CompD and theres a thread on CumminsForum in the first gen section on vgt control plus I think there where a couple threads on DTR about putting one in. I used these when I was looking at putting mine on. Theres an adapter on eBay for going from T4 to T3 if you don't want to modify the stuff, plus theres the oil lines and stuff there too.

There's a bunch of guys running these on their 1st gen's, with pretty good results. As soon as I have the money to buy one I'll be strapping one to mine. The electronics can be bypassed, (i.e. the actuating solenoid = M.I.A.) and use mechanical means of actuating. Some folks are using drive pressure to move the vanes, but then have no 'exhaust brake' capabilities. There was talk just yesterday of a guy using a twisted throttle cable, (I think) to actuate it. Run the cable into the cab from the actuating arm and can manually move the vanes. Fleece Performance makes a standalone controller, but I don't think it'll work on a 1st gen as it plugs into the ECM on a 3rd gen. As for studding the head; well, it's a good idea I guess, as these turbo's are capable of 40+ psi, (the most I've read was 55 ) depending on how much fuel you're pushing. But really, unless you're rolling 40 all day, you should be fine. I wouldn't worry about it.

 

I called fleece today on a controller for a 12 valve. They are developing one and it will be available in 60-90 days and runs $600-700 depending if you want an exhaust brake. I got on their interested list and will get a phone call as soon as its available.

 

im not spendin t300 for the turbo and then 700 hundred for wat makes it work . i could buy a 62/65/12 and be done for that price ha ha.

 

You could, but the HE351 is going to perfom better, especially if you harness all it's potential.
