The Bell housing has a slot sort of for venting. Our experiences are more that the input on the transmission will leak causing a clutch to slip more than the rear main. The rear main has to get oil around the flywheel, then into the clutch material. A transmission input seal will allow it to run down the input shaft into the clutch. Either way the transmission is coming out. At that point, you will know exactly what needs to be done.

there is a gasket (3914386) A cover (3921043 )and then 2 more seals (3921265 oil seal)
3912473 this seal is in front of your main seal.

I think it would be your trans that is leaking.

I dont think its the transmission because when i bought it the guy told me the clutch and trans had 1200 miles on it. and i've only put about 3200mi on it since then.

youd be surprised at what people tell you though. like my brand new tranny i got that the top cover crapped out 3 weeks after having it rebuilt.

or like my tahoe i bought in the dark (stupid mistake) the guy told me it just had a brand new engine and tranny put in it. well turns out it was a high mileage motor and trans that were used i ran the engine vin

but hopefully he was right. and if you can see the oil that comes out thatll help you determine what it is. if its 15-40w diesle oil its coming from your engine, if its gear oil, motor oil, or any other oil theyve used in those trannys its probably comin from your tranny

also check the back valve cover. if leaking it will run down the back of the block through the vent and smoke the clutch!
