that is the engine speed sensor. only used for automatic transmissions. it tells the transmission when to shift along with the tps. manual trucks do not have them. im pretty sure the aftermarket tachs get installed just like the crank positioning sensor (aka engine speed sensor)

Nope. The crank sensor is on both auto an stick. It has no control over the shifting of an auto. It just tells the PCM the truck is running.
