Tach Gauge

Is it possible to put a tachometer on a '90 cummins? and if so does anyone know where the wires connect to on em? :humm:

I know ya can, not exactly sure where they tap in but I would sure like to know too.

i dont remember what company makes one but i know they do. and i believe they go in like an engine speed sensor IIRC

im doin a engine swap and i seen a sensor on the hormonic balancer so im a little stupped on this question too:pca1:

tltruckparts 02-03-2010 01:40 AM

that is the engine speed sensor. only used for automatic transmissions. it tells the transmission when to shift along with the tps. manual trucks do not have them. im pretty sure the aftermarket tachs get installed just like the crank positioning sensor (aka engine speed sensor)

Well I found some info in the sticky.

Isspro makes a tach sensor kit that glues on the balencer and that will run there tach. The kit for the none factory wired trucks is R 8912. Look on the isspro site. I have there kit and a R8503 4,000 rpm tach.

I have a sensor that has been glued on that is where the crank position sensor. You think that sensor could be use for the computer and able to run a tach?

I have an Isspro 4k on my '93. My truck had a factory hookup for a dealer installed tach. It's a gray 4-prong plug tied up by the fuse block. Wire colors are gray, orange and two black. Call Don at Isspro (503-528-3402). He's real nice, he'll know exactly how to help you. He can tell you what you need to hook up a tach. I'm not sure if the '90s had the plug like mine does, but Don can get you sensor to mount if your truck doesn't have the plug.

on my auto 93 theres a 4 pin plug under the drivers side of the dash but the problem is any tach u buy has to be able to read a half of a volt which nothing u can get off the shelf @ your local parts store can read corectly the best thing u can do is buy a tach kit which would go on your harmonic balancer or buy a crank sensor & a voltage inducer or go to tiny tach & buy one of the kits they have it looks like an hour meter on heavy machinery the way this tach works is by a magnetic ring that wraps around your number 1 injector & reads the engine rpm by the amount of fuel that flows thru your number 1 injector supposed to be very acurate & i find it 2 be a rather ingenious way of measureing rpms once i have the money saved up im going 2 invest in one & try it out myself
