about to beat my against a wall
ok everyone i got a power steering problem im getting really frustrated with.
i have no power steering at all. i unplug the line that goes from the pump into the high pressure inlet on my hydroboost(in a chevy truck) when the truck is running and nothing comes out with pressure. its like its empty. ive put two brand new pumps on it, nothing. so i pulled a complete ps assembly with vacuum pump off a 91 cummins in my garage that i am 100% sure it worked on. i put it on, and still nothin.
i took the front timing cover off to verify that the gear was spinning, and of course it is. but i have no flow anywhere. ive had a total of 4 different pumps on it and 2 different complete units both from working trucks. what am i missing here?
do the dodge pumps maybe not pump enough to flow up hill to hydroboost or what?
anyone got any ideas

the first line coming out of the pump i took all the way off, blew it out with air, and there was nothing in it.
so i dumped some fluid in it and it poured right out the other side
ive tried everything im stumped

do u have any hydroboost? i hate to ask but are u sure u r connecting the proper lines on the pump. there should be one that a hose is just clamped to a hose barb which is the return side. thats the one where the fluid will just run out if u unhook it and have the reservoir full. the other one has a thread fitting to connect a high pressure line to. somethin u could try is take the other end of the high pressure line off the hydroboost and and hold it pointed back into the reservoir while someone else starts the engine. if the pump is moving any fluid at all it will come shooting out and recirculate indefinitely.
however after all those pumps and no difference, assuming u have the lines hooked properly, i would be suspect of the hydroboost unit as if it is messed up it could be returning all the oil to the reservoir without forcing any pressure to the steering unit. without a flowmeter/pressure gauge setup ur gonna have to do some really primitive stuff to diagnose, such as have someone hold the brake with the engine running while u crack a fitting loose on the pressure line to see if it will make oil fly everywhere.

i wasnt even getting any pressure out of the direct first pressure line directly off the pump, even with it hooked up to nothing it did not flow. but i got it figured out. i had to close everything up, and just bleed the everlovin crap out of it. 3 hours of bleeding it and then it just instantly flowed. it almost seemed as if there was a valve or soemthing in the pumps that when run dry, wouldnt open until it was stressed or something. i dont know if thats what it was for sure but it works now. thank god
