Default G360 to NV4500?

I am looking at putting a nv4500 in my 90 w250 which currently has a G360. What will i need as far as other parts to make this work? will i need to swap t cases too? Is this a difficult job or just a matter of swapping parts?

you will need the tranny and the back engine cover that the tranny bolts to off the newer engine. you will also need driveline mods, and to make a new floorpan as the shifter comes out further back. i dont remember if you can use the old clutch and flywheel or not. and you will also need a new engine crossmember

in my opinion the better way to do it is to use a special bell housing that joins the nv4500 to the original engine plate. this alows u to keep the same starter and hydraulic clutch system as they r specific to their own bell. same flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, release fork. u do need a throwout bearing that fits the nv4500 because the tube it slides on is a different size. ull need to make an adapter to bolt the tailhousing to the crossmember and to keep the rear of the trans the right height. u will have to cut a new shifter hole in the floor. if ur good u can use the piece u cut put to patch the old hole. use ur original transfer case. it will mate up just perfectly. u will need to make a bracket to hold the shifter. the driveshafts can stay the same as the overall length when ur done is only off by like 1/4 inch from original

i would keep the getrag, a nice tight getrag will last a long time and perform great.
i've never heard of anyone blowing 5th gear up in a getrag. and they dont make upgrade parts for the getrag, why might that be?

x2

I've drove my buddies 4500ed 1st gen, didn't like it...

Overfill the rag by a quart, dont lug it down (good advise for any engine or tranny) and it will run as strong if not stronger then the 4500...

tl, the bell im talkin about looks like the original getrag bell at first but it ia the right length and hs the right rear mounting pattern to fit a 4500. this way u dont need the second gen engine plate and stuff that goes with it and the second gen bell: like a second gen starter (yes they look similar but wont interchange, ive tried) and a second gen hydraulic clutch system.

First off thanks for all the great advise. Heres the deal, my getrag needs work and i currently have the chance to buy a 96 club cab 5 speed 4x4 for 2 grand. the guy that owned the 96 hit a cow, however mechanically it is sound. it has 250,000 on it. I wouldn't mind staying with the getrag. Would i be able to buy this 96 and part it out and have enough money left over to fix the rag or would this 96 be a bad investment?
