Default looking at buying a 1990 Dodge

hello everyone. I have a couple of questions. I'm looking at a 1990, two-door I forgot to ask whether it was a manual or a automatic. The owner says that the only thing he knows of, that is wrong with it is, it is leaking diesel fuel, around the injector pump. He says, the bodies in good shape. The engine starts instantly, he claims to have kept up the oil and oil filter changes, and he claims there are no other problems that he knows of. I ask them about the interior, and he said, well. It's a 1990 so it may be a little rough. The guy has moved to Texas from Florida and his wife is staying behind to sell their home and other such things. He will be back, Thanksgiving and said I can come look at it this weekend. He seems motivated to sell. He's asking $900. I have a Mercedes diesel, and my wife has a VW diesel. So I'm very familiar with all the problems associated with diesels, but am not familiar with the Cummings engine and the Dodge, would appreciate any advice. Thanks Dave.

I would jump on it, if you can go buy a compression gauge and check the compression in each cylinder, if they are all the same, you are in good shape, if not, well rebuild time.
if you rebuild your self, it will cost around 1,500.00 or less.

Heck yeah, Grab it. Of course, you ask this question in a biased place. The truck could be posessed like Christine or something and all of us will be like," 900 bucks, hell yeah".- "But it kills people".- "So what, for 900 that's a deal, man". But seriously, I'd buy it, for under a grand you cant go wrong. Good luck.

I guess my main concern was, what can go wrong with this year model . What are the main things to look for when I go check this truck out. I seriously doubt that the owner would let me do a compression check over this holiday weekend, before he has to return to work in Texas. I know with my old Mercedes there are tricks you can do, such as looking for blow by out the oil fill cap. what kind of body issues such as rust or electrical problems, should I be checking out, this kind of thing. Again thanks for all of the quick responses. I guess, for that price just the Cummings 12 valve is worth it If it's in good shape.

My '90 had to be pulled out of a snow bank in the back 40 with a farm tractor, no reverse, u-joints falling right out of it, 4 different tires(that werent even included as part of the sale!) the dirtiest hack job wiring harness ive seen in years, no inside door panels, 395,000 km, and cigarette butts 2 inches deep all over the floor, for $2500, and up in this end of the world that was still a smokin' deal, the engines alone typically run 3-3.5.

so for $900 just go get it! worry about whats broke or gonna break, later! plenty of time for researching all sorts of stuff once its home!
