Question help with pump timming

Hi everyone, I just bought a good ve pump off of a running engine, I have one problem they did not lock the pump at top dead center before they took it off. How do I know when the pump is timed to #1 cyl.? I have the timing pin in the hole for cam timing. The info. I have says to put the keyway on the pump shaft at 6 o'clock, but can it still be 180deg off? Thanks in advance.

you can't always go by the timing pin, your best bet is to get the timing tool for that pump

i have been looking in the book and cant find any thing there is no timing marks?
you guys should have locked the pump in place and found TDC can you pit it back on the original truck if you haven't spun the motor it should line up?

correct me if iam wrong......

every rotation of the pump is one full injection cycle (all 6) there for if you find tdc on the engine then just twist the ole pump shaft around until it fits in the gear or is it different?

you need to buy the ve timing tool.
First remove the access plug from the rotary head central screw assembly, that is the one in the middle, then thread the timing tool extension into the access plug, only finger tight, then you thread the dial indicator tip extension into the dial indicator, also finger tight, know install the dial indicator into the timing tool extension.
Set the indicator to allow at least 3.0mm travel.tighten the locking sleeve finger(located on the dial indicator) the indicator travel should be set with the pump unlocked.
(at the point of injection the key way of the shaft will aliggh with the delivery valve receiving the injection
Cant illustrate so I HOPE TIS DOES NOT CONFUSS YOU!
Looking at the pump where the lines hook up, this is how it fires, starting from the top right of the bolt that is in the center but on top.

Install the drive gear retaining nut on the pumpdrive shaft, make sure pump is unlocked! Rotate the drive shaft clockwise.as the pump is rotated the gage will rotate in a clockwise direction.as injection is completed to the respective ports, the pump will snap. At this point the gage will reverse direction to counterclockwise.zero the gage at the point the needle stops and reverse to clockwise again.continue to rotate the pump clockwise until the keyway is preparing to alighn with the #1 delivery valve, make sure the gauge is properly zeroed.
continue rotaing the pump clockwise while watching the gauge.count the revelutions. Each revolution equals .50mm, three revolutions equal 1.50 mm.

After you get your desired plug lift, lock the pump, remove the nut and the tool and you are done.
I will try to take pictures of me doing one.
Hope this helps.
