ok theyre literally about a month old batteries so they should be under warranty. as it starts killing itself it does it very slowly it starts going fast and by the time its done its barely turning over almost as if the batteries are dieing

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

if i take out the starter and take it in to the local auto parts store where they test them will it determine that prolem, or does the way they test them cut all of that power so i wont know on there machine

they'll test amperage draw on start-up, drive gear engagement and disengagement, and motor function... you can have it tested for sure; but in all reality.. be ready to shell out for a starter bud... and i'd have the batteries tested as well while i was at it and save any headache later on down the road.... contacts are probably about toast since its getting stuck engaged and just continuously drawing

even if its a wiring problem at this stage in the game your starter probably isn't "healthy" but; yes take it to the autoparts store... they should be able to confirm

well i took the starter to the auto parts store and it passed, but i bought a new one regardless, and its still doing the same thing. i complete forgot it only started doing this after we wired a starter relay. so im wondering if maybe the relay isnt closing or something or whats going on

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

also i know it is for sure an electrical problem because the only way you can kill it is by disconnecting the batteries. i also tested voltage on the big wire to the starter and it is at 13.3 volts. and the little wire only had juice in the crank position so im really confused as to whats going on

its not disengauging, you must have it wired wrong dude

you need hot to the starter motor and a seperate hot to the starter solinoid, once the truck fires or you let off the key the power need to disconnect from the solonoid

thats how iv always done it constant power to the big wire and key power to the solenoid wire. i wonder if the relay i used causes itself to stay open once opened and doesnt shut itself automatically

some relays do odd things... the relays used to control an electric plow can operate like this.... although you said that you removed the relay and it continued to crank.

He didn;t say he cut off air, he cut off the fuel.

But I agree on teh starter also.

well i had a buddy come over today so he could try cranking it while i did some tests and i figured out the problem. it was something funky with the ignition switch. when the wires are disconnected from the starter everything is ok and wires test correctly on the switch wire. but as soon as the truck starts and the startup lights turn off in the dash, it re-engages the starter switch and continues it to crank. odd scenario ive never seen an ignition switch due that but thats what it was and we replaced the switch and wa-la it worked
