well it was. started it today and same problem, alot better then it was but still some smoke, whitish grey smells like fuel, and its breaking up when you give it fuel. with the cold start advance powered problems gone. i also found a fuel leak looks like its coming from the shaft that the throttle hooks too where it goes into the pump. i donno if these are related or how to really fix either so i need help again. sorry for the lack of knowledge this motor is new to me, im a mechanic but don't do much with cummins. my old idi i knew inside and out so hopefully in time this one will be the same.

thanks

if fuel can get out then air can more than likely get in. if this is only on start up then its from air seeping into the IP over night or while its sitting... if hot wiring the KSB fixes the problem it still sounds like a timing issue. i know you already bumped it an 1/8th but if anything was changed with the gear then its going to take more than an 1/8th

it starts fine and idles fine, but i think yer right with the timing thing. i have never had the pump off but was told a new pump was put on at one time so i guess i'll have to pull the cover and take a look where the dots line up

timing is an amazing thing... leave it at the 1/8th bump and advance the gear a tooth and i think you'll be good to go... now that i've devised my own idle adjustment i'm thinkin about cranking the AFC to the head

if your leaking fuel it wont advance properly. It uses internal pressure for the dynamic advance.your timing gear may be off

That will destroy a stock truck real fast... Especially if towing
