Default 8.5 liter turbo on a first gen?

i have been told that a turbo from an 8.5 liter cummins will fit on a 5.9. i would like to know if it's true and if so, do i need to do a manifold swap or will it just bolt right up. I do need to put an intercooler in my truck but the turbo would be the next step after that, if it's possible.

im sure its possible. all depends on the size of the turbo though.

and the size of the flange if its t4 or bigger you'll need a new manifold or it won't work.

I think you will find its a 8.3 505 cubic inch C series not an 8.5. It most likely is an HX40 but don't hold me to it.

An HX40 will work but will be really laggy. You need lots of fuel to make that spin. A 50 would be even worse.

Alot of the hx40's came on teh 8.3. If you can find one with a 16cm housing and a T3 flange it would be a good upgrade for your truck. Anything else is a waste.
