Default Fuel tank size.

Looking for a second, third? opinion here.

on my truck ('93 w350 4x4 manual duallie) I run my tank down till the "low fuel" light comes on here and there, when I refill the most the tank has ever taken in was 20-21gal.. according to the owners manual and some looking at online parts shops the only tank they have for these trucks are 30gal, is this correct? if so I think i really need to do some work to the sending unit.

also from a full tank showing over full on the gauge to 3/4 tank happens pretty quick like maybe 50 miles if that.. from 3/4 to 1/2 maybe 120+miles very non-linear which irks me but i can live with it.

Also, my eventual goal is to add a bed tank anyways and add a tank switcher to automagically switch when the low fuel light comes on.

I was told 30 gallons also.

I fill up ever 450-480 miles and the most I have ever put in was 26-27gal, most of the time it will only take 22-24gal.

Is that 22-24gal when the needle is low enough to cause the low fuel light to come on?

I've been just going over all this in my head how I plan to set up the extra tank and I would hate to have it switch when there's still 10 left in there..

plus I could fill up not as often

my low fuel light doesn't even work... gauge does... so i';m thinkin its the little chip behind the info cluster. either way... it sounds about right... if it'sa 30 gallon tank... 5 gallons from the light to E and an extra 5 gallons just in-case... if it bugs you; just run it to E but i wouldnt recommend it... keep going with the light routine... i ran mine around the shop right above the E and ran out of fuel...

It's not a bad thing to keep the fuel in the tank; the fuel heats up considerably as it cools down the injectors and injection pump.

that too... i've been expressing how important the fuel is to keep everything cool and how everyone running the 03 CR 5.9 on E all the time is just adding wear and tear to everything... and it's rearing its ugly head, the truck is messin up

I considered running it out just to see, but I decided against it. I dipped a rod into the tank and figured there was about 5gal left. I might pull the sending unit and clean it up and see if it gets a little more accurate.

Thanks guys.

All diesels came standard with a 30gal tank. When my low fuel light comes on, and stays on, it takes me 24gal to fill back up.

as for the quick drop in fuel level... have you seen the shape of these tanks? they aren't very... "equal" in shape it narrows substantially at the top right where the neck goes in and it stretches from a little behind the rear spring hanger to about 4 inches ahead of the skid plate... they're massive and weird shaped...
