Default Couple Questions

Hello,

I just finished installing an EGT and a boost gauge on my 92 W350. I'm just wondering what the "safe" range should be on my exhaust temp, and also, what boost should I be getting at WOT?

The turbo is stock, although I'm not sure the exhaust housing is the stock 21 one, or if it had been changed somewhere along the line by the previous owner. Is there any way I can measure the size or find out what it is for sure?

On the first gens, I believe max boost is around 25-30, so I'd set the max value at around 22. Then on the EGT, max value set it at 1000.

Were is the EGT probe located? Before or After the turbo? Pre-tirbo cummins says these engines can run at 1250* continuous duty. After the turbo I would not go past 900*.

As for your boost is the truck bone stock? No fuel mods done? If it really is bone stock you should be seeing around 20psi. The stock turbo stops being efficent somewere around 30psi. As for finding out the size of the housing you can pull it off and look in the flange and the size will be stamped in it. I circled it in red in the following picture.

Cool,
Thanks a lot for posting up that picture. I'll have to pull it off and see what I have. As far as the pump goes I have removed the collar on the fuel screw and have it turned in 1 turn past where it had previously bottomed out. I also rotated the fuel pin diaphragm and turned the smoke screw in two turns.

The only other mods done are a straight pipe exhaust and I made an air intake with some 4" tubing and a K&N filter.

Right now I am only getting about 15psi of boost max. I put my EGT probe in the manifold before the turbo, and haven't had the trailer hooked on since I installed the gauges, but the highest reading I've seen running empty (briefly) at WOT was about 850 degrees, so It looks like I have a bit of room left as far as tweaking to do on the pump.

If you plan on towing I would hook the trailer up and tune it that way. Pulling that trailer is gonna ad heat fast. Especially if you want to run up a hill WOT.

Chicken...

Max sustained is 1250 degrees and 30 PSI isn't going to hurt anything.

You'll find it a lot easier to cruise at 1250 degrees than 30 PSI though. Cruising at 30 with a close-to-stock setup will give you a lot higher than 1250 degrees.

1500 degrees for 10 seconds is very unlikely to hurt anything as well.

where is a good spot to locate a fuel pressure gauge on a 92?

okay i found the stock 4 wire plug for a tach..went to a local diesel shop and they had the isspro wireing kit for it...do i have to use a diesel specific tach or will any tach work?

begle1 thanks for the reply on my other ? i had.

The turbos on these trucks whistle anyway but if you do have a boost leak that is were all you pressure is going. It does not take much to rop all your boost.

Here is a really good write up on boost leaks and how to make a leak detector for cheap
https://www.dieselbombers.com/cummin...tructions.html

You can get a bango bolt with an outlet for a fuel pressure sending unit from our sponcors. just start a thread looking for one here

Price Quote - Request A Price - Diesel Bombers

And yes you need a diesel specific Tach. One of the sponcors can help you with that too. I really like my Isspro I have.

Our sponcors have boots also. The problem with cheap boots is the tend to split.

I'm running these on my 1st gen and they have help up to 60+ psi so far!
