Truck won't start - Lift pump?
I only drive my ole first gen about once a week so I went out today to fire it up & take it down the road but it wouldn't crank. It normally doesn't even turn over once before it fires but today I got nothing. I took a look & I can see where the lift pump & block are wet, looks like fuel, just got there. So I "primed" the pump with the manual lever, it felt like it pumped the first time, the second time nothing. If I waited a couple seconds it would pump again. Anyway, it fired. No smoke, everything sounds fine & runs fine, it doesn't run flat or anything like that.
Is the lift pump on it's way out or already shot? What's a good direct bolt on upgraded pump?

If it is leaking fuel out it is leaking air in, Find teh leak and fix it and I bet your problem is solved. Your losing prime some how. The IP will pull fuel from the tank and the engine will run with a bad lift pump (wont like it though) but if there is any air in the lines it wont pull any fuel.

A bad lift pump is not in any way going to keep the engine from cranking. The only thing that can cause that is an electrical problem, a starter problem, or an engine problem.
A bad lift pump on a VE truck will reduce longevity of the IP, not much at all if the pump isn't turned up, and still nowhere close to what a bad IP does to a VP truck.
