Default Intrigue with the HX35/HX40

I recenting bought a used HX35 that needs rebuilt. While in the process why not build a hybrid, just seems interesting? If so is it worth the extra effort to look for a 6 blade impeller for the compressor side? Would to hit the 300 hp at the wheels. Still need to get to the screws on the pump. Also have a powerjoke cooler to install. This is a PROJECT as the peenys come in the extras will be installed. All going on an '89 3500 two wheeler with a 5 speed and just turned 500,000.Thank you all and have a great evening.

Whit Got it. Go with the 35/40 hybrid. You can get them upgrade from vendors here on the site. Be warned though that the larger wheel of the 40 on the small shaft of the 35 will break if you over boost it or bark the turbo bad. And with the 5-speed it will bark. Just be carful though and it will take you to 300HP

A hybrid would be great for the power you are looking for. FYI a Hx35 and Hx40 have the same diameter turbine wheel

Default modified HX35 or HX40

May have a change in plans. There is a company in the UK building high performance Holset turbos.Claims to have to cold side housing shrouded somehow to prevent barking (surging). The company is GS Racing, all I know so far is the 35 has a 12cm turbine & the 40 has 14/16cm turbine.Sorry not sure how to put in a link.Try GSRacing - Home Anyhow let me see how this goes.Any pros or cons out there? Boy did that let me open for some shots.Have a great weekend.

I think I would go with a company that is a little more well known. Holsets are not "performance" turbos and really don't have the basics to make them performance. They are good turbos but have there limits. And that company looks like all they are doing is selling is 7 and 6 blade compressors. For what you will spend on one of them you would be miles ahead to save up some more and get a S300 based turbo. You get a stronger shaft, more efficient design and better air flow. You can find a nice used S300 62/14 for around $900 if you look around.

EDIT: I just went to MSN and did the math. Its gonna be $650 + Shipping + Customs

OK OK may have found a S300 60/71-16 build configuration (I think). It's from a guy on another forum, says there is only 3,000 miles on it.Is this more down the alley of what I maybe looking for? It's going to take a large wheelbarrow full of pennys toget one of these. But if it is a more durable, flexable built turbo. Then should only need to purchase one. Thanks to everyone for all the advice.Have a great day.

Never heard of a 60/71/16, they are deffinatly stronger and take alot more abuse then the Holsets.

Default Moving On

Even after all the advice I ended up with a HX35 & HX40 for about $200.So of the the turbo shop, heard of someone in Ohio that builds turbos for a local Big Rig sled puller (Tom Lindsey). Anyhow before I send them out is there any reason to try to polish inside the snail curl on the cold side? If so HOW ??Thought about balling up scruffie pads and work them back & forth. Or am I just pi!!ing on the wind?
Also is there a shortage of tool steel in England? It's a good thing Holset uses bushing rather then ball bearings. Cause the surface area of a bearing would probably bend that skinny shaft.
This turbo set up will have to do until more money, knowledge & experience is accumulated.
Have A Great Day.
One more simple question. How do you determine it's time for larger injectors? If anything,my typing & spelling skills are improving.
