Default Speedo Won't Work!! HELP!

I just bought a 1990 D250, she's bone stock 175,XXX miles but the speedometer doesnt work at all. anyone help me in the right direction to check, manually or electronicly?

if it is a 4x4 check on the transfer case on the drivers side there should be a funny looking box on the upper rear of the case. remove that and look for a square shaft if there isn't one then that is the problem. or if you can't find the speedo box then it may have been nocked off from where you have been driving or the previous person. if it is 2wd it should still be on the driverside rear of the tranny.

you might need a new vss (vehicle speed sensor)

believe it or not It's in the grid heater wiring. i wired it back to the main harness since sum redneck (im one too but i dont do stuff like this) by passed from the driver side fender well where the wire is visible from the harness directly to the grid heater. Well i took that by pass out and wired it into the main harness and now the speedo bounces to the speed you are traveling at and goes from 10 to your speed fast enough to have an idea how fast you are going. its an on working project.
