it can be built stronger but not sure how far.. there is a kit to put in a th350 that extense the case with a longer output shaft and spacer.. a th350 or 400 will hold if built rite.. the internals on the 700r4 and 4l60 are a bit small

a th350 is much stronger than a 4l60.. I have a 350 in a prostreet nova making 1100 hp and it lives well.. the prob. is very few people know how to build them,, they think bigger is better.. not always true..most people read to many magazines and just order from jegs or summit racing..althought I am a 350 guy and build them for people alover the world I would run a th400... dual feed the directs, run 4 interm. clutches and mill the direct and forward piston to take 7 frictions run the 4l80 front drum and sprag and 4l80 band and pin with a deep pan and your good to go.. last time I pulled my cummins suburban across the scales with my 26 foot toyhauler with the nova in it it was almost 22,000 pounds..trans temps run no more than 190 in the pan.. or do a 4l80 the same as a th400 build. I wish you lived closer I would make you a believer..

btw google jakes trans and dual feeding a th400 and or jakes shoe trans mods.. this guy is a god and builds transmissions to live.. he is not like the amco or mr transmission guys... theres much more that slapping one together or a shift kit.if I can be any help let me know..

so instead of putting money into a 4l80 and building it up then matching it up to a 205. i should just pull the 4l60 build it up and keep the 208. rebuilding one shouldnt be a prob, will be my first and my buddys first but we also have a diesel mechanic that said he would help.

we have a rebuild kit for a 4l60 already i want to say 88 or 89 part of the kit is for 700r4 and the other is marked for a 4l60e or just a 4l60 but anyway i know theres no sense in putting that back in but what parts need to be upgraded? we have a lath and mill just incase we need to do some work
