My speedometer has never worked and most of my wiring is toast. I don't think anything runs off the power control module any more. I would really like to have a speedometer though. Does any one have any ideas? My truck is a 93 Dodge cummins it has a jetrag 5 speed transmission it has cruise, air conditioning. That is about what I know.. Any help would be great thanks.Hal

 

I had horrible wiring nightmares with mine as well. I hacked an '89 speedometer (mechanical) in it.

 

My speedometer went out twice in two years. The first time it was a bad speed sensor. If you have a scope, I can tell you how to test it. The second time it was a bad ground. That's crazy easy to fix. Make sure you check that and the drive gear before you fork out money for a new sensor. Sounds like you've got bigger problems, though, since your wiring is "toast".

If you're going to go through all the trouble of sourcing, buying and installing an old mechanical speedo, it seems like you'd fix the wiring issues you have. Then you'd have a working speedometer AND the peace of mind knowing your truck isn't going to burn to the ground. Complete wiring harnesses aren't that expensive for our trucks anymore. Complete chassis harnesses can be had for under $100, under-hood harnesses for under $200 and complete dash harnesses for under $150.
