Default 1990 727 4wd convert to 2wd

I plan on picking up a 4wd 727 trans tomorrow. My truck is a 2wd. I want to convert this trans to 2wd, rebuild it, and install it in my truck, to avoid downtime. This is my daily driver.

I know the tail cone is obviously different, but so is the output shaft. Which output shaft do I need? It appears they come in different lengths and different years won't work?

I can go to the junkyard and pull a 727 out of a 1980's truck... there are a bunch of them in there right now, to get what I need. I figured I could sell pieces of the transmissions to get some of my money back... or hopefully pick up just the parts I need on ebay

The transmission would have to completely disassembled in order to swap out the output shaft.

I wonder if the output shaft and tail piece is the same for both the diesel and gas truck?
