Default Speedo problems

SO I have taken my dash out about 5 times now and a bit frustrated. I put a new speedo cable in and it worked for about 400 miles. The cable is just fine. If I drive I can see the cable is not spinning at all. I have reconnected the cable at the tranny end two more times now and no luck. I have an early 89 with the getrag 5 speed. Anyone have any experience with this or any pointers?

This is something I ran into recently with a tach cable. The core was too short for the housing. If this is your case, one end of the core or the other would pull out of the driven gear at the trans or pull out of the speedo. Another possibility is that the socket the cable slips into, either speedo or driven gear is stripped.

Think its common that the driven gear on the tranny gets stripped out stupid little part.....
