HX52 turbo
I just read in this month's diesel power magazine about them putting a hx52 turbo on a first gen cummins and they said it made 55psi of boost and 430 hp. I have never even heard of these turbos since now. What were they used on? They also said it has the exhaust flange adapter. where would I get one of those? I would really like to get one of these eventually
Ya I dont even think the 8.3L cummins had that big of a turbo, with a turbo turbo that big, your going to either have some major lag, or it aint gonna be do much unless your pushing some serious fuel. The turbo alone wont at 300 horse on a first gen, you got to have some beefed up injectors and injection lines.
i was just wondering cause the picture in the diesel power mag only had that turbo. they said it was 66mm

Also, i thought those 8.3's had hx40s?

If all you uses a truck like that for is drag racing you can probably pull the single turbo off but for DD it would suck. I think the 8.3L has an HX 40 also, I have worked on them before but Im not entirely sure what turbo it has, I think the HX 55 are on the Cummins Celect engines.
i dont remember the exact specs but im very confident the thing is a 67/??/16 the turbine is in the 70's. the m11 cummins comes with a hx55. im also not sure what the 52 came on but i have seen them work and they can work decent. it will be laggy, there are much better choices out there but a used fleet turbo often times can be had for cheap.
I once found a list on Google with the engines Holsets are fitted to. like a dummy I did not add it to favourites. Still trying to find it again, found one from Spain that lists some of them.
Try Google-Holset hX52, 2 siteson there have reasonable info, Turboforums and turboblogspot.
Seems this came of a Volvo, has various turbine housings, saw 16 cm and 19 cm listed.

I think most of em came off Volvos. The truck that had that turbo had a stock stall converter, which stall around 2,500rpm, so it worked well with his combination. You need to adjust the rpm range of the vehicle around the turbo. Water-meth also carries out the powerband more.
