Default Cooling Fan?

We just recently acquired a 1993 W250. Well, the previous owners replaced the regular cooling fan with an electric fan. My question is why? It was a they were tired of it and it will make a good crawfish truck for here. What would be a reason to go with an electric fan?

Anyone?

An electric fan allows the engine to no longer have the strain of spinning the fan and clutch assembly. This gives a performance boost and lets your motor reach operating temp sooner and keeps your motor cooler!..........

But shouldn't it be a supplement, and not a replacement?

To answer your question "What would be a reason to go with an electric fan?." Not many. The only two I can think of right offhand are an expensive high-zoot race setup for a huge aftermarket inter-cooler that simply doesn't allow the stock fan to fit anymore, or also some belt-driven mechanical fuel pumps that interfere with the stocker.

Otherwise, it is just a dumb idea.

Only a very few and very expensive electric fan kits will move enough air to cool a working 5.9. The 2nd Gen fan is a nice, inexpensive upgrade for a 1st Gen, with a slightly better pitch. Power consumed turning the stock clutch fan is negligible. The stockers are also far more reliable, overall. If you can't afford to replace the clutch you are better off pinning it and putting up with the noise.

Do you know where I could go to get a new assembly? Everything is gone, replaced by a single aux fan mounted to the radiator

Rock Auto has the clutch for $45.99. Not sure why they don't stock the fan itself. Dealer can probably get that, but I'd hate to see what they want for it. Any fan off a 1st or 2nd Gen in a junkyard would do just fine.

Like NadirPoint said RockAuto or NAPA, Autozone, any parts store can get the fan clutch. I pay $45 for mine at NAPA.

Fan part number is 52028653. List price is $77 ask the dealer if they can help you out with the price. 51 in stock at dealerships in the US they have been discontinued so the dealer closest to you could get it from another dealer.
