Default Air intake is to low

I am trying to figure out how to raise the air intake on my first gen cummins. I don't want a snorkel but I also don't want my intake at bumper level so I can go in some water. Please help if you any ideas.

well, i suppose you could take your rubber air intake tube and fit a bracket from your inner fender so it could be suspended in an upward position then cut a hole in the bottom your hood big enough for your air filter then make a sweet hood scoop. you could also use some 4 inch exhaust material to fix up a 90 degree bend upward and do the same thing, only you wold have a solid pipe instead of that rubber.

if you wanted to get really crazy you could cut a hole in the firewall and pipe your intake through there so it wold suck in cold air from the cab!

Thinks for the ideas, but I think I'm going to go with turning the air box so the intake is towards the back.

yea, my ideas were a little extreme! there should be plenty of room to turn it behind the inner fender.

I have run my intakes back into the cab on some Jeep builds, but they have a little more room under the hood, or at least the plumbing is easier to run without the turbo housing. Other than that, or hanging it a little higher on the fender, you are in a little bit of a pinch for room. You may be able to flip-flop some intakes from a second gen (aren't they closer to the firewall?) or junkyard tech another airbox off a gasser and move the windshield washer reservoir. If you go the gas air cleaner route, don't turn up your nose at some little bitty rice burning car, they have NO room under the hood, and still have to flow air, and it seems like they all have aftermarket support for them. Might get a quality replacement filter that works for that application AND flows the air you need... You didn't say if you had an intercooler set up, but if you aren't intercooled, you may have a smidge more choices on ducting and room.

yes, a second gen intake will work well because they curve back towards the firewall.
