Default 1991 dodge ram 250 diesel

My neighbor is getting rid of his 1991 dodge ram. I am interested in buying it, It is a 1991 with 130000 miles. He said there is a transmission sensor that is bad and it will not go over 50 MPH but i would like to find more information on this. Will I just have to replace the sensor or will the whole trans have to be replaced? Please help with this so i know how big of a project i am buying.

if its what i think it is then its a common problem with the 1st gens. the sensor is simple to replace but a few years back it cost $240

the sensor can be fixed if you are willing to tear it apart and you know what you are doing to the contacts. break it apart and glue it back together. did it to mine and it works fine.

another option on this subject is the permanent fix sold by the guy at Big Bad Diesel Performance. its some kind of over ride or something. i havent bought the part so i dont know but i think it would be a good purchase if you dont have the skills to rebuild your sensor.

you should really consider buying the truck though. super easy to work on and that one is low mileage. plus you have a huge group of supporters that will help you with any problems you may have.

it is not on the transmission it is the black thing around the head of the ve pump (injection pump). TPS stands for throttle position sensor.

Okay I'm going to try to figure it out thanks for the help.

I figured it out. It is the speed sensor that connects to the speedometer and odometer.
