Those are incredible numbers for sure. I would be happy with about 325 or so...well I say that now but you know how it goes. If I had that then I would want more.

As far as transmissions that's a good question. PO told me it was a 700r4 built by his tranny guy that did his drag car. I seriously doubt that but not 100% sure how to tell I need to find the numbers on it. It has a gearvendor overdrive and I don't know the rear ratio and or the ratio with the gv in place. I will say after all of the monkey **** I have found this week tearing it down to the the front oil seal I don't think he had the right information or told me the right information. Supposedly this was a professional install by Cummins NW. If they did this kind of rigging then they need to be taken out to the back 40 and severely beaten. I'm by far no expert but common sense on some of this stuff should prevail. I guess that's what I get for thinking.

So back to the subject. Money and Trans, well I don't want to change the trans as I don't have money for that but I would like modest hp with decent mileage and I am guessing that can be achieved. I have contemplated bailing and going to find a dodge with a 12v that hasn't been patched together but then I think there has to be light at the end of the tunnel I just hope a train isn't attached to the light.

Tomorrow I will look at the turbo and see which one it on the truck. One thing I did notice is that my turbo is inverted running an industrial setup, the truck has a bs IC setup on it that I'm going to have to replace. I was told it had bosch injectors and a local diesel performance shop put a pump on it just before I bought it a year ago. He's very popular with the diesel crowd here and would certainly time the thing accurately. One would hope. I did talk to him about the crappy mileage and he told me the PO used to bitch about it to him as well. He wants $1200 to modify the motor to get about 100hp more. I held off as others told me that was spendy.

Thank you for the links I'll do some reading as I have been reading a lot on this site and learning more and more each day. I'll post the trans and stuff tomorrow. Thanks

I'm sorry to say, I knew about STOMP but forgot, I have not had a 1st Gen in a while but I'm back at it again with new funds from a wreck. Thanks for the info. and coming to this site.

Jason, do you really have to do an intake to get to 400 HP?

Thanks
It doesn't take much to hit 300.....I hit 301 with a low stall converter, intake, exhaust, a 60mm compressor upgrade on a stock HC1 and Dynomite Diesel (stage 4) injectors. The truck drove nice, had great fuel economy, and that would have been enough for many people. It's usually the combination I recommend when most people want to mod a VE. I think it could/would have made 350rwhp with some more timing, I was unknowingly only at 9 degrees at the time.

I finally got my truck back together today and haven't figured out what trans is in it but I did take a shot of the exhaust and turbo. Is this a stock turbo? I know the manifold isn't typical and I assume it is the industrial setup. Any info?

Not stock for a 1st Gen, Looks like a HX35 to me, ask Josh.

It should be on that aluminum Holset tag.

Any thoughts on which turbo this is? Also how about the exhaust manifold? I have pulled 2x since cleaning up some issues seems to be better on my temps and no more overheating now it's time to drop egt's even though I don't think mine are out of line and I want to boost the power. I will re-read through here as I think JasonQuarterMile laid it out pretty well. Thanks

I found some information on the Holset website tonight on my turbo. Anyone ever modify one of these? Here's what I found.

You could get an HX40, 2nd gen lift pump, gov spring and gauges for way under $1200. Working on the pump is easy. Tons of good info on here and other forums. The board to cover the turbo is a great idea because you never know when it is going to run away on you tuning the pump.

An HX40 will bolt right up and only requires a slight modification to the down pipe. You can find them on e-bay for under $300. I've seen 45psi out of mine with the mods in my sig plus gov spring. I haven't figured out my mileage because the speedo doesn't work, but I only fill up every two weeks.

The first thing to upgrade is fueling with the 2nd gen lift pump. My stock pump was junk (0psi at WOT and barely registered at idle).

I have part of it already covered as I have a full line of guages on the rig already. One thing I don't like is my tach floats from time to time, I think it's just a faulty gauge but I have a pyro, boost, manifold pressure, tach, trans temp, regular temp, and regular gauges. Am I missing something?

What about manifold? I think that was what I was thinking wasn't stock looking. It's been modded to make sure it clears I'm guessing because of the A/C box is why they inverted the setup.
