i am going to order a valair clutch this week but wont have enough money for it to be installed. was wondering if someone could explain how to put it it

 

Go to your local autozone, checker, or napa... get your self a haynes or chilton manual for your truck. It will have all the info you need. You'll need torque specs from it anyway.


Make sure you have a decent torque wrench, and if the clutch you choose doesn't come with a new flywheel you MUST have your resurfaced!!! If this is your first clutch plan on it taking a good portion of a weekend to complete.

 

Rent a good tranny jack. I rented a heavy duty one so I could pull the tranny and transfer case together. Took me a weekend with help to do it. Just alot of little stuff to do along the way.

 

Yea like they said, have a good torque wrench an tranny jack, makes it alot easier. Once you get if off check the flywheel for heat cracks an heat spots, u may have to have it resurfaced. If not it wont take very long, on my 2wd me an my dad had my clutch installed in 4 1/2 hours, but since yours is 4wd it will take a couple hours longer. All in a good days work.

 

Talk about a fight. It's do-able but not easy by any means and if this is your first one keep us close by and give yourslef the weekend to do it, just in case. I pulled the tranny and transfer seperate and tried to put it back in as one piece. It was ugly. The jack collapsed under the weight and it was within the jack limits. As one piece this stuff is heavy to the extreme. not to mention messy with fluid runnin out all over the place while your layin in it.

For me anyway was pullin the cross member. Theres a sweet spot in it and once you find it it will pop right out, if you don't it's a fight and a half and some guys use a spreader to move the chasis rails. Just move it back and forth and you'll find it though.

The next thing was gettin back in place in the backof the motor. Has to be right on the money straight into it or it won't go. A long rod stuck through the bolt holes will help line this up easier.

I installed a new valair clutch in my truck it was 1400$ with shiping and I am hearing a slight chatter when I let off the throttle, what chould this be?
