Default 96 2wd to 4wd

my buddy just bought a 96 2wd with the nv4500 tranny for 700 bucks.he was wondering how hard it would be to make it 4x4.he has plenty of other vehicles to spare so the fact of not having a truck for a while doesnt bother him...any and all info appreciated

The front end is completely different. You would have to torch the crossmember and control arm brackets. I would buy a 1500 98-01 4wd and drop the cummins in it. I went with a 3rd gen
