just watch cyl 1 when intake valve closes and exhaust doesnt open immediately after while barring you are on compression. adjust valves on cyl1 then rotate until cyl 5 does the same intake closes completely repeat adjustment. i adjust to .010 intake and .019 on my 12v firing order is 153624 just remember 15 shes too young 36 shes too old 24 shes just right takes alot less time doing it this way

Use the valve overlap to find TDC. If you are using the alternator nut then the engine is going backwards so watch #1 intake valve, it will open and shut but right before it shuts the exhaust will start to open, once you see the exhaust valve move, STOP.
Alternatively, if you are cranking the engine over forwards, watch the exhaust open and close and right before it closes the intake will open, once you see the intake start to move, STOP.
It does NOT have to be any more accurate than that, in fact it can be wayyy off. I have put a dial indicator on the valves to determine where the exact base circle is and yeah you can screw up pretty bad and be fine, just as long as you know which phase you are on since you adjust one set of valves then the other. Jiggle them and you will quickly find out which phase you are on.

Have you done kdp fix yet? If not you can fix the kdp, reseal the timing cover, and mark the balancer and cover for tdc for future timing purposes and valve adjustments. You'll also know exactly where it is regardless of timing pin condition. Also a good time to check timing.
