Start off with a good set of gauges and an exhaust system.

Gov springs and a lift pump upgrade, alot of guys go for the things that add power but neglect the supporting mods. 3k gov springs are fine on stock valve springs, 4k's you at least need the 60# valve springs. Upgrade your overflow valve too, heard of guys picking up 25 horse just from properly maintained fuel pressure which the bosch OFV is sub par at. After that, take it to a shop or do it yourself; but bump the timing. Boost elbow THEN add yourself some fuel. You'll find the gains much more pleasing this way
