Default Clutch change/upgrade 12.25 to 13"

I need a new clutch and I want to go with a 13"
I've found a double drilled flywheel and hopefully someone can PLEASE CONFIRM if this will work with a 13" clutch, my truck is a 1996 4x4

Clutch places are selling this flywheel for upto $500.
Part number 167434 13" upgrade flywheel for 1994-2001 Dodge 2500
http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMS-AUTOMOTI...ht_1058wt_1037
Price is $211.70 SHIPPED for the flywheel.
It is an AMS part.. a file from AMS confirms this is the retrofit flywheel to allow 1994-2001 to run 13" clutches.

I want to use this clutch:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/CLUTCH-KIT-D...ht_2461wt_1037
OR MAYBE
STAGE 3 CLUTCH KIT DODGE RAM CUMMINS DIESEL 6SP 5.9L | eBay
Supports 450HP and 850ft/lbs for $285.
I can save some real money if this works.

Clutches are all imported, and what I'm witnessing is clutch resellers making 500% profit and I think we can piece these kits together ourselves.
I know I have the flywheel correct, that was the major challenge.
What year model truck clutch is designed to go with it?
Can anyone confirm if the parts I've selected are compatible?

you need to make sure the clutch disc hub is 1 and 1/4 inches and not 1 and 3/8 inches. some early 6spd trannys had a 1 and 1/4 input shaft and all 5sd nv4500 trannys have a 1 and 1/4 input shaft. later 6spds in most 01 and all of 02 and up had a 1 and 3/8" input shaft.

Thanks, that is good to know.
It should be 1.25 as long as it's NON 'HO' or high output, right?

Most clutches upto 2004?

Guess I'd have to use this one......
$339
410HP/740lb-ft
13" with 1-1/4" input

$551 delivered for new 13" flywheel and 13" clutch.
South Bend says they "modified" their clutch to make it work with 1-1/4 .. I don't believe it for a second, they say the same thing about the drilled flywheels and they come pre-drilled.
The clutch is probably for some other application, I just need to figure out what.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Does anyone make an adapter to install a 1-1/4 in 1-3/8.. i think that could be useful.

Bah!!
I'll probably just go with a stock replacement that supports higher HP/torque
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=170636995749
400/850
$256.

ive never heard of an adapter for that, but that doesnt mean there isnt one. in my opinion id go with that 12 and 1/4 inch stock replacement one you listed last. i had a 2000 dodge with a nv4500 5spd, 1 and 1/4 input shaft and i got a 12 and 1/4 luk pro gold from napa that did just fine. it was rated to 720 ft/lbs and i paid like 340 for it. it held up really well. i cant see where the extra 3/4 inch in diameter of the disc surface makes that much difference. and no, i dont know of any cheap 13" 1-1/4" clutches out there.

Spend the money on a good clutch or you will be buying another one in 6 months.

That's not very accurate.. money spent does not necessarily mean value.
For example, the 13" flywheel needed to do the conversion is $200, clutch places and diesel parts sites are selling it for $400+
When, if you have the part number, you can order it yourself for 200.

I believe the same is true for the clutch, I just need some help finding out what application the 13" clutch for 1-1/4 input is for.
South Bend, Valair, and other companies sell clutches for $600+ that I've found from auto warehouses for 300-325.

Truth is most of these clutches are imported, some even from countries like Korea.
Why would I over-pay for one?

A cheaper clutch that holds 400HP and 850lb-ft torque should last me over 10 years.
A clutch with that rating, even if bought cheap, should not need replacing in 6 months.
It will have new flywheel, new bearings, clutch fork when installed.

I believe they may be keeping the part numbers a secret so we can't buy it from a distributor.

Howdy fellas, I've been deciding on which clutch I'll be buyin for my truck, comparing the prices of replacement 12-1/4 and 13" upgrade.
I will be replacing the clutch and flywheel.
Here's what I've found:

13" clutch upgrade with 1-1/4 input (fits 94-2001 w/NV4500)
$212 for the 13" upgraded flywheel
AMS AUTOMOTIVE 167434 Flywheel/Flexplate
$339 for the 13" upgrade clutch with 1-1/4" input..... (Heavy Duty 13" version)
LUK 05-145 Clutch Set
TOTAL COST: $551

$185 for 12-1/4" replacement flywheel:
AMS AUTOMOTIVE 167432 Flywheel/Flexplate
$275 for 12-1/4" clutch(Heavy duty version)
LUK 05-902 Clutch Set
TOTAL COST: $460

13" upgrade costs $91 dollars more than a stock sized HD replacement.
For less than 100 bucks difference I'm leaning toward the HD 13" upgrade.
Do you guys think I should buy a new master/slave assembly?
PS0114
$149.79 from rockauto
Not sure if it needs changing????????
Over 300k on the truck.

Another option.. this clutch:
05-073.4C Stage 4 Heavy Duty Ceramic Clutch Kit: Dodge Pickups & Vans - 12¼"

$567 delivered for new flywheel + clutch supporting 450HP / 850 lb-ft
Have never run a ceramic clutch, I think I will give it a go.

The saying I live by with these trucks is, "might as well do it while im in there." If you are going to have it tore down then you might as well stick something in there worth while. If it is the prices that are bothering you then request a price quote and see what the sponsors can do for ya. A napa clutch might hold you over for awhile but wont come near southbend decent single or dual disc clutch. Good luck though let us know what you figure out.

Will probably go with Phoenix Frictions ceramic... but have to hold off for a while.
380 and it supports 450HP/850 torque
