Who knows anything about EMPs
So me and my dad are kinda getting ready for some sort of SHTF kind of scenario and one of our biggest concerns is a EMP "electro magnetic pulse" wich disables all electronics. And the question is would his 1998 12valve 5 speed be rendered useless since it has a computer. I think the computer is just for diognostics and it wouldnt keep the truck fom running can you guys give any light to this debate. I'm certain I can get my first gen going after some sort of EMP but Im not to sure with the 2nd gens
Gauges probably won't work but it will run. If you had a 47RH you would have 1-3 gears and you would half to manually wire in switches for OD and lockup.
Not sure how an EMP would affect the governor on the 47re.

i feel like it could kill it. it could be rewired to run like kazairl said. but it wold eat all electronic components. my 93 has a dead fuel shutoff solenoid so it has a pull cable to shut it down. with the key off it will still run and shift but no overdrive. i think that would be a similar situation. im not certain how many electronic components are involved in starting it. i had a 84 mercedes turbo diesel that could possibly make it through an emp. it has very few nonessential electronics. i sold it about a week ago but now i regret it just for that reason. i have learned to be careful talking about shtf scenerio to nearly anyone or you could be dubbed crazy

so can anybody tell me what the computer in these trucks do exactly. He wants to start beefing this truck up with bumpers, winch, 100gal fuel tank, bigger tires, and lights, but he thinks he should sell it and get a first genner. is there anything we would have to bypass after a EMP
