Default front end noise help!

OK...just put new ball joints on my truck.... since then i have this weird noise when going over any kind of a bump...or even the tinyest lump in the road. it is a loose feeling and sounds like a lite clunk sound. kinda like the bushings in the shock is bad.... the shocks are brand new. i took the front end completely back apart checked all my work from doing the ball joints and everything is tight and snug. the only thing i see wrong is the tie rods are shot. i ordered new ones... but would that cause a clunking type noise when going over the slighting bump in the road?... i mean i can litterly go over a crack in the road and it makes the noise. i have checked everything. kinda lost. thanks for the help guys.

O and also after the new ball joints the steerwheel doesnt go back to center...meaning.... you know how u can make a turn and let go of the steering wheel half way through the turn and it starts to steer back to center.....wel mine doesnt do that anymore after the new ball joints.

Yup I would check the trac bar. The bushing at the bottom can wear out and the flag bolt will clunk around in there.

I had the same problem that took me forever to track down. Turns out The lower bushings on my brand new shocks was just a little bit to big. Every bump would cause the mounting bolt to bang around in the bushings. Sounded horrible.

cool thanks guys. i ordered a new trac bar, new drag link and tie rod end. so once it gets here i will get it all on and hopfully that takes care of it. and the ball joints, wheel bearings and rotors are all brand new...so the front end should be solid now!

send your trac bar back.. go to lukeslink.com ... trac bar rebuild kit is less than 100 dollars and its ajustable.. just make sure you dont have the moog bar on your truck..

My truck has the same problem as yours. New Ball joints, shocks, tie rod ends, moog trac bar, front u-joints I purchased the truck this way. I think I'll be doing control arm bushings now? I'm getting new bolts from Dodge for Control arms. Steering column shaft is tight, no play in it. Any suggestions?

Make sure the bolt on the axle for the track bar is the right size mine had a new track bar installed when I bought mine but the stock bolt was to small for the updated track bar had to put the new updated bolt in it the shop I get some of my work done at had the bolt lying around and gave it to me no more clunk from that anyways but my shock bushings are worn time for new shocks

Yep, worn out bushings will definitely cause a rattle. the bolt will bounce around in there making a TERRIBLE noise

my right front lower shock mount is clunking like crazy, it took me a couple of weeks to figure it out though as i was checking it with the front end in the air and the suspension hanging. as soon as the suspension had weight on it the bushing had tons of slop in it. when i figured out my diagnostic error i felt kind of dumb (yes that is the crack smiley)
