4.10 To 3.54 ???
I did a search and didn't come up with anything so here is my question. What is involved in converting from 4.10 gears to 3.54 gears? Dana 60 up front and dana 80 out back.

Getting the new gears and putting them in. If I had the time right now and we were closer Id say lets trade gears.
Its really pretty easy to do if you have all the tools and some what know what your doing but basically you have to swap out the gears and set the lash correctly.

yea i'd like to trade you... i got same axles with 3.54's i love these gears but with my big tires and weak little 6 banger rod-knockin' cummins i need something a little lower to keep down stress on my transmissions (yes, plural.... it eats 'em right and left....)
I'm just curious what all it would take and if anyone has done it already. I was reading that you need to change out the carrier on the dana 80 for the 3.54 gears. I'd like to have the extra mgs since mine does far more driving than pulling.
i haven't done it myself but i have read alot you gotta change out the carrier
you wouldn't have to change the front carrier, but you WILL have to change it on the rear, Dana 80 carrier split is "4.10 and up" "3.73 and down"
One other option you could look into is a set of "thin 3.73" gears.
Or just find someone to trade with. Thats what I did, found someone about 600mi away that wanted 4.10 and had a nice shop, so I took my camper out to his place parked it in his yard and we swapped complete axles in 2 days.
