I have a buddy with a 97 and he is having problems starting the truck he says he has to press the accel pedal to get it to fire off if he doesn't the truck just turns over and will not start any input would be helpful thank you

what does the truck idle at
it could be a sticky dv
does it have a miss what kind of fuel system

 

Truck idles around 700 and has stock fuel system, he says there is a miss when on start up when its cold outside then clears up, there is a bolt missing that holds the afc cover on and star wheel is turned up and has the fuel plate slid forward

 

Take it to someone who knows 12v trucks. We can throw suggestions all night but its much safer and reasonable to have an experienced tech work on it

 

I'll let him figure it out the truck has more than just starting issues and needs some tlc IMO I was just being nice and thought I would get some opinions on this one issue. Thank y'all for the input

 

You could try bumping up the idle a little and see if it helps.
