Bottom dash repair question
The bottom dash is cracked where the AC controls, cup holder, and radio are. It's not completely broke out, yet. I was thinking about using fiberglass to reinforce/rebuild this section. I've never done anything like this before so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Believe it or not, there is such a thing as a plastic welder. You can get them from Harbor Freight for under a $100.00. There's 2 kinds. The one you want doesn't require air. With a minor amount of practice, there isn't much that can't be repaired and as just as strong. If appearance is important,a bit of bodyfiller, light sanding and paint does the trick. I bought mine 20 yrs ago, best tool investment I've made.
Thanks man I'll look in to that. I just hope there is enough there to weld together LOL. Btw, I like your sig

Well after inspecting the plastic better it seems to be pretty weak and somewhat brittle around the cracks. Guess I'm going to HAVE to reinforce it with glass.

If you'll take strips of thin sheet metal and heat them with a propane hand torch, just to the point that they melt the plastic and imbed them across the breaks, before laying the fiberglass,it provides slot of strength. Use the fiberglass mat,but skip the resin and use the fiberglass gel. Looks alot like body filler, and mixes the same. Won't run like the resin,so no mess. Available at Oreilly's,maybe Autozone. It's the stuff that has glass in it. Super strong repairs on plastic.
Thanks again man, I REALLY appreciate the help! It's been hard trying to keep up with all the things I actually know how to fix (mechanical) let alone the things I don't LOL.
I had my dash crack all over and used plastic fusion its like two part epoxy it bonds like epoxy only better it realy worked good for me harbor frieght had it also the auto parts had it its like 6 bucks
I may give that a shot. My top dash is so brittle that if I try to take it off it will just crumble. I'm going to have to get a new one before I can fix the lower.
