tappet cover ...billet...leaking..what to do?
It is leaking.
There are different bullet covers out there one uses a o ring the other uses silicone. I also see there is a plastic cover on top of tapped cover. What is the purpose for this? The bullet covers don't use this from what I see.
I also have a valve cover breather to should not need the breather on this anymore.
I just don't want to deal with this leak again. What is the best thing to do for the perfect fix so to speak?
Thanks Joe

I just fixed this peoblem in my 2001 24 valve and I did a lot of looking in to it... Of its billet then all you need to do is clean the gasket area with some brake cleaner then put a good amount of RTV on the billet cover then pop back on. The plastic cover is a hear/noise shield but it falls apart if oil gets on it. dodge wanted 120 for that so I just left it off. Mine was stock and I did not have the $ for a billet so I just got a new gasket from NAPA and went to work yesterday got it fixed and no more leaks.
Just make sure to clean out you breathers so it does not blow out. I put a breather on the top of my valve covers to help. I have no blow by.... yet so its good for a while... Good Luck! also how many miles did you go before yours gave out? Mine started leaking about 2 quarts a day at 300,250 miles.

Mine has 211 on it. Thanks for the info. I am wondering if the bullet is worth the money though? I do not want it to ever blow out again. Is it much louder with the plastic piece gone?
Is the valve cover enough for the engine to breath if you seal off the other breather on cover?

I don't think it's worth the money if your not wanting super power out of the truck... Your oil pressure is what kills That gasket. The valve cover gasket really does not do to much but I also don't have any blow by.. Of you to have blow by the valve cover filter will help keep pressures down so it does not blow a gasket. But you need to keep the breather on your tappet gasket clean and not plugged or else you'll just blow a seal. I'm going look at mine at every oil change now cuz that vp44 is not fun to pop off and on. Hope that helps
And it's not any noticeable louder or more heat..... Sounds and runs the same with out the huge oil puddle every where also the gasket from Napa cost me 18 bucks
