deffinitely get a new dowel pin n put it in. if ya dont, you could have problems with your timing slipping due to the whole gear case shifting

Your one lucky man!! The least damage ive seen is the dowel pin busted the cover and oil was everywhere. The bad side of it was, the guy was at pigon forge, TN and had to tow it back to VA. Roughly a 4 1/2 hour drive But the worst ive seen is the whole engine was obliterated.

If nothing else, just make a pin and also make a shield for it and your troubles are done.

i just took mine down last week and found the same thing. there is no visible sign on the gears either. it did break the gear housing though. good thing the gears are harder than the pin.

Simple to fix when open, so install it and make sure it stays put...

front side of engine block, if you have the engine out definately take care of it. All you need is some way to keep it in place, you can use a tab of metal, I have seen people dimple the metal around it with a cold chisel...

If the engine is still in the truck it take alot to get to it.
