Default Gas engine - like pinging

Jeff,

Did you even figure out what was causing the pinging sound? I have a similar sound at about mid throttle. I checked the fuel pressure; it's running at 18-20 psi at idle and 8-10 psi at WOT. I replaced the fuel filter, screen, and injection pump overflow valve. I noticed a slight increase in reponsiveness after replacing the overflow valve, but then the pinging started several hundred miles later. Makes me wonder if I need a new lifter pump and it's slowly degrading. Any lessons learned you can provide would be great!

8-10 psi @ WOT is not near enough pressure. On a 12V you should have ~22 psi at idle and ~30 psi at WOT

Welcome BTW.

Default Ya but what about the pinging?

Thanks, I'll change the lift pump. Do you have a recommendation stock (manual) or electric? Could that explain the pinging? I know it's not like a gas engine, so my intuition tells me it's something else (air in injection line, bad injector, bad injector pump?).

ps thanks for the welcome

Default Fuel pump recommendation

I can convert to an electric but not easily so I want to make sure that there is an advantage. Space is right on the Hummer and they are expensive.

Two things. I changed my air filter and even though it was not dirty, after closer inspection I found a big bunch of sticks, leaves, hood insulation and even some dog food in the hose that goes into the air cleaner box. Seems as though the varmits love my Dodge as much as I do. They really had it stuffed full. I still am looking at over flow valve.
