before anyone gets confused, the hx35 or s300 (in this case 62) would be the small turbo in the compounds. A BHT3B or S400 type turbo would be the big one. a set with a pair of turbos too closely matched will not yield good results. the big turbo usually flows 2-3x as much as the little one. an hx35 flows about 575cfm, a S362 flows about 900cfm, a BHT3B flows about 1200cfm, an S475 flows about 1500cfm

I'm not sure 500 hp with minimal lag is possible with a single turbo unless you spray it. I might be wrong, but that's about where I am, and there's definitely some lag. I haven't seen anyone else with that much power and a single turbo present any magic bullet that gives really quick spooling.

ive heard of a s362 before can that be found on equipment? i can readliy find turbos off of equipment if any would be a good match. what should i look for?

s362 is common on JD and Cat engines. the trick is finding the RIGHT one. most will be a non-gated large T4 housing as these engines run at a pretty steady pace, unlike our trucks. New housings cost a few hundred. the engines will prolly be about 8-10 liters. a 12-16 liter will have the BHT3B/HT60 or Detroit60 or TV75 or HX60 or S400 you'd be looking for. don your calipers and look for a 74-80mm inducer and as close to a 26cm or 1.28 A/R as you can. Try to stay away from "odd-ball" turbos like T50 or 4LHR as they will be hard to get connecting parts (flanges/clamps/boots) and dont work as well in general.
